Advisory bodies

The Board of Governors is accountable to the public, who pay for the BBC. In order to better understand audiences' needs and concerns, we engage in extensive consultation and discussion. We also take advice from a number of advisory bodies representing the interests of particular groups of viewers and listeners.

Broadcasting Council for Northern Ireland
The Broadcasting Council for Northern Ireland helps the Board of Governors ensure that BBC services properly reflect the needs, interests and concerns of audiences in Northern Ireland. Find out more.

The Broadcasting Council for Scotland ensures that the interests of licence payers in Scotland are properly represented, acting as primary advisers to the Board of Governors on issues affecting Scotland. Find out more.
Broadcasting Council for Wales
The Broadcasting Council for Wales represents the views of viewers and listeners in Wales. The Council is chaired by the National Governor, who sits on the BBC Board of Governors. Find out more.
English Regions accountability network
The English Regions accountability network consists of over 500 people who advise the Board of Governors on the performance of local and regional programmes and services in England. The network comprises the English National Forum, Regional Advisory Councils and Local Advisory Council. Find out more.
Central Religious Advisory Committee
The Central Religious Advisory Committee has 16 members representing different faith communities in the UK, and provides advice both to the BBC Governors and to Ofcom. Find out more.

The World Service and Global News Consultative Group provides Governors with an independent external assessment of he range and quality of World Service and Global News output. Find out more.
