Review of religious output

The Governors held a seminar entitled Taking Belief Seriously to discuss the BBC's religious coverage and programmes.

BBC management, the Central Religious Advisory Council, external speakers and invited guests discussed key themes including the importance of belief to BBC audiences; and the role of other genres - including News, Drama and Comedy - in exploring issues of belief.

Two reports on the BBC's religious programming were circulated to attendees. They examined the impartiality of BBC religious output and the performance of the BBC's religious strategy for television.

A summary of the issues discussed at the seminar can be found below. This seminar and the reports are part of an ongoing programme in which BBC Governors examine key areas of BBC output on behalf of viewers and listeners.
